INTERVIEW: Andy Cool (IM King)

Posted in Interviews with tags , , , , , on January 7, 2010 by The Goodie Bag

Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you do.

Hey my names Andy and I am the founder of IM KING/IMaginary KINGdom. I am
in charge of all aspects of the brand. If you wanna read more of what we
do check www.IMKING.com

What motivated you to start IM King?

There were a lot of changes that I saw in the industry and decided to try
my own twist on things to see what would come out of it. I was always
attracted to fashion and looking good. I wanted to start IM KING to start
not only a lifestyle brand, but a form of entertainment.

Who are some of your biggest influences? What are some of your
inspirations when designing something?

Well speaking for the team I’d say our biggest influences are everything
we are involved in. We are influenced by the things we do, the places we
go, what we listen to and watch. Our style is very bold and always
evolving. The fans also keep us stepping up our game to make sure the
newest season is better than the previous.

Who have been your biggest supporters thus far?

Our biggest supporters are the ones that email me all the time to find out
news on the product. The ones that hit us up on the social networks to
tell us how much they enjoy what we’re doing. The ones that see us around
and come up and say how there always reading the site. I want to say thank
you to everyone who’s been supporting us. That’s what pushes us to try and
develop the best brand possible.

Tell us a little bit about IM King and the people involved.

IM KING was a concept I came up with back in 2006. The name is based off
the name IMaginary KINGdom which tie into together. Polo and I decided to
get the line going in late 2006. We were fortunate to find Brian who
helped paint the picture of the line. IM KING is OUR way of life and to
live it the best way we can. Over three years later and our team has grown
to about 20 people who keep this operation running.

How have you built your brand?

We’ve got an amazing team who work day in and day out to make sure that
people enjoy what we’re doing. I think we’ve done a lot to get people to
feel like they can relate to what we do. Our site is one way we use to
inform our customers and entertain them at the same time. Opening up to
people has helped us form not only a broad base of consumers but friends
as well. There is always something to do here and we’ve all sacrificed
everything to make IM KING what it is today. We are far from where we want
to be, but we’re definitely on the right path.

Where can we find IM King?

Well we are in stores worldwide some ONLINE sites you guys can check out
are 80spurple.com/imking, Karmaloop.com, and Atticonlineshop.com

Besides IM King are you involved in any other projects / ventures?

I am on IM KING 24/7. There are projects that we are working on with that
tie into IM KING. IM KING isn’t just a brand that produces clothes, we are
making it into a lot more than what you see now. Just wait and see..

What upcoming releases, projects, or events are you working on?

To find out you’ve gotta check out www.IMKING.com frequently. It is
updated everyday and we’ve got tons of things for 2010. Our line is
expanding a lot for this year and you will definitely be surprised to see
what we’ve got up our sleeves. Everyone will get their chance to see it
this year.

What are some of your favourite brands?

I am a huge consumer at the end of the day and I still buy things outside
of IM KING. I am a fan of Tom Ford, The Hundreds, Louis Vuitton, Public
School, Obey, and there’s a few more that I haven’t stated. These brands
are all unique in their own way and keeps me inspired to work harder.

What are your plans for the future?

The plans are to make sure we develop IM KING into the best brand
possible. We wanted to create the best products, be the most entertaining
brand and live life to the fullest.

The fashion and music worlds are often tied together…What music artists
are grabbing your attention right now?

Well as most IM KING fans know we are huge supporters of music. I like to
listen to everything. I am always listening to mixtapes, while Alex is
bumping some Dub Step or Tampon is playing something on HypeM. We do
support artists that we believe in such as Shawn Chrystopher,  12th Planet,                                                                                                             Donny Goines, Nicky Savage, 50 Cent and more.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us Andy. Do you have any last
words or shout-outs?

I want to thank Peter and The Goodie Bag team for conducting this
interview with us. To everyone who’s down with us it’s IM KING or DIE!

IM King “Pound4Pound” Special Edition Charity T-Shirts

Posted in Clothing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 11, 2009 by The Goodie Bag

The homie Alex from IM King just sent me the information for their Special Edition Charity T-Shirt collaboration with Manny Pacquiao.  Please refer to the Press Release below for more information.

IM King - Pound 4 Pound (Black)

IM King - Pound 4 Pound (White)

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 – On Behalf of the Manny Pacquiao Charity Foundation, Klevah Management, and Mass Hysteria Werx. IM King is proud to announce its Special Edition Official Charity T-Shirt collaboration with the current best Pound for Pound Light Welterweight Champion of the World, Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao. This genuine partnership not only commemorates Pacquiao’s fight against Miguel Cotto on November 14, 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, but also mark’s valiant efforts to raise proceeds to help Typhoon Victims in Pacquiao’s home country of the Philippines. Major devastation and tragedy struck on September 26th, 2009 to Metro Manila and its surrounding areas. Part of the T-Shirt sales
proceeds will be donated to the needy victims on behalf of the Manny Pacquiao Foundation and IM King.

The IM King “Pound4Pound” design is an inspiration based off Chief Datu Lapu-Lapu, who back in the 16th Century fought back against Spanish Conquistador, Ferdinand Magellan, and successfully defended his village and fellow Filipinos. Pacquiao actually portrayed the legendary country hero in an annual re-enactment held in Cebu City,  Philippines, as he is the perfect modern day example of Lapu-Lapu as a national hero. It is Pacquiao’s Filipino Fighting spirit and an inspiration to the people to make it out of adversity and never let anything stop your dreams. It didn’t take long for the design
concept to materialize between IM King’s Creative Designer, Brian
Tampol, and Mass Hysteria Werx’s CEO, Brian Ortencio, who are both of Filipino backgrounds.

The Tee will be available for Pre-Order on IMKing.com ONLY, Wednesday,
November 11th. Exclusively on IM King’s web store.
