We had the opportunity to interview entrepreneur Gary Hughes and gained some insight on the Deuce Brand. Deuce Brand watches are definitely something new and fresh to include in your wardrobe.
Please tell us about the concept of having a brand name entitled Deuce.
#2 was the number that I wore throughout my sports career. Deuce also relates to tennis – When you are going to win a set or match it is called Deuce. Deuce is also now known in the Urban World as throwing the peace sign. I wanted to bring the combination of sports, my personal life, and the urban world into one.
What does The Goodie Bag mean to you?
The Goodie Bag to me means something that is given to another person as a gift. It is special and always brings a smile to the individuals face.
Describe some of the challenges of being an entrepreneur. How do you stay motivated?
I have been a self-motivated person all my life. I wake up each day ready to attack because I know that there is going to be something different thrown my way when I get out of bed. Any entrepreneur will tell you that running your own business is a roller coaster. You must stay focused and surround yourself with a great team!
What new projects, collaborations, or events will you be involved in this year?
This year we are doing a number of different events. We have already attended the Grammy’s, NAACP Awards, Kids Choice Awards, and the MTV Movie Awards. We have attended several major trade shows including MAGIC, ASR, JCK Jewelry Show, and the International Licensing Expo. We are also launching a collaboration watch with Susan G. Komen. We are introducing the Pink Ribbon Watch in July!
Name some factors that you believe are the reasons as to why Deuce Brand watches have been successful in such a short amount of time.
We have put an extreme focus on marketing and distribution. Our watch is not your every day watch. It is very unique due to the shape and silicone band material. It is really the first of its kind. We have been working with numerous athletes, celebs, and musicians to promote our watch. It has really helped us catapult to the next level.
Please explain how the formation of the wrist brand watches came about?
I have always worn the social awareness band (Live Strong, baller bands, etc.) and wanted to take the band aspect and combine a watch. We felt that it is a very simple concept but no one has ever taken the initiative to develop the technology.

Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan.
LA based Meister Watches just revealed their latest watch, the Black Mamba. The new timepiece pays homage to the Los Angeles Lakers, coming in a purple, gold, and black colourway and featuring an authentic black snakeskin band. Only 50 units were produced and each one is individually numbered. A release is scheduled for July 2010.
The infamous New York fashion design duo, Dee & Ricky, have lent their trademark retro style to the latest edition to the G-Shock family, the GA110DR-1A. This limited edition chronograph perfectly pairs an extra-large analog/digital with the Dee & Ricky design sensibility seen on fashion runways and metropolitan sidewalks worldwide. Available in July 2010, the GA100DR-1A will retail for $130.00 USD at select retailers.
The GA110DR-1A uses rudimentary building blocks as a starting point, the design draws on primary colors to mimic the appearance of a toy watch. Like the duo’s signature Lego®-based designs, all the details pop against the black backdrop. A never seen G-Shock technique combines contrasting LCDs, gear-shaped hands and other parts to create a distinct multidimensional effect exclusive to the GA110DR-1A. To further customize the timepiece, the Dee & Ricky logo appears on the band and the engraved backcase features the Dee & Ricky caricature.

Remaining rooted in G-Shock technology, the Dee & Ricky X G-Shock is JIS Class Level I magnetic resistant to protect against the effects of magnetic fields often found in airport metal detectors. Additional GA110 features include shock resistance, 200M water resistance, Auto LED Light with Afterglow, 48 City World Time, 1/1000th Stopwatch with speed indicator, and 4 Daily Alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, Auto Calendar and Hourly Time Signal.
With Wood Shock’s popularity continually increasing, they thought that it’d only be right to release a new colourway of their wooden bezels. The Wood Shock ‘Natural’ watch will be releasing later today on the Wood Shock online store and at select retailers worldwide. Look for new colourways, limited editions, and collaborations from Wood Shock to release in the near future.
Wooden accessories seems to be a hot commodity these days with brands like GoodWood NYC leading the way with their popular Jesus pieces. However, there is a new brand to take notice of. PRPLMNT and Saint48 have collaborated together to produce Wood Shock watches. Wood Shock takes the classic G-Shock watch and outfits it with a hand/laser crafted wood bezel for their custom W-Shock piece. The watches are fully functional and are available in two colours, black or red. More colourways and editions to be released soon. W-Shocks are now available for $260.00 USD on their official webstore.
I came across this brand about 5 months or so ago, and lately they’ve been making a lot of strong advancements with their brand and the marketing behind it.
